Who are you?
I have a few new followers on here since I started back in February so I thought it would be nice to get to know one other.
Who are you? Who are you? And how did you get here? Was the path dark and winding? Or blindingly clear? And what do you listen to? What do you eat? And who are your parents, and where did they meet? And what are the odds - an improbable feat! - that they did and you’re here ready for me to greet? What made you? What built you? Who tightened each screw? Who told you the stories that gave you your ‘you’? Were you the main character or just one more ‘who?’? Do you run? Do you read? Do you paint? Do you bake? Do you follow your dreams even when you’re awake? Are you a mother? A lover? How do you serve others? Did you grow up surrounded by sisters and brothers? Do you sleep with one leg out on top of the covers, no fear of the monsters hiding under your bed, because they’re already here, inside of your head? Was your childhood filled with parties and picnics? Or did you get by with nothing materialistic? Did you walk on lush carpets, or eggshells, or both? Are you breaking the cycles, did you take an oath to do all of that radical personal growth? Do your knees hurt? Your ankles? Your stomach? Your soul? Do you feel the winters in the core of your bones? Was Christmas joyful or fearful? Cosy or cold? Do you find yourself feeling increasingly old? Do you grinch at the carols and choirs and joy because it’s not been the same since you were a boy? Do you look back and wonder at what point you changed? Was it all of a sudden your cells rearranged? Do you ask when your past self became so estranged? Did you make someone proud? Or angry? Or tough? Tell someone you loved them and had it rebuffed? Has anyone told you you were always enough?
Hi. I’m Helen. I write. I try to write about what I know and ask questions about what I don’t. I find myself increasingly asking questions these days. The more I discover the more questions I have. Who are you? How did you get here? What’s your story?Â
Ha! the most difficult question for anyone to answer! how others see us is often with kinder eyes.... I hope that who I am is a good friend, generous, willing to try and fail along the adventure of life.
